FKT Guidelines
Unsupported
In an unsupported FKT attempt, you have no external support whatsoever.
-
You must carry everything you need from start to finish, except for water from natural sources.
-
Public taps along the trail are allowed, but no water from commercial sources.
-
Spectators arranged in advance by an athlete are considered supportive.
-
Phone communication, digital devices, and support people at the start and finish are not allowed.
-
Using public restrooms is not considered support unless it’s extended sheltering.
-
Charging digital devices at public power sockets is acceptable.
Self-Supported

-
Self-supported FKTs allow you to use support available to anyone else.
-
You can manage or find support along the way, such as caching supplies, purchasing items, or requesting food/water.
-
Camping in a friend’s yard is considered supported because it’s not available to the public.
-
To achieve a self-supported FKT, you must also beat the fastest unsupported time.
Supported

-
Supported FKTs allow as much external support as you can enlist.
-
You remain entirely self-powered, but support can come from others.
-
This can range from a single person accompanying you to a team providing everything except physical assistance.
-
Supported attempts often enable faster times due to reduced weight.
-
To claim a supported FKT, you must beat both self-supported and unsupported records.
Groups & Teams
-
Groups can attempt FKTs together, using any of the three styles.
-
Teams may share gear and still be unsupported.
-
If a member drops out, the remaining finishers are automatically considered supported.
-
Casual interactions with strangers encountered during the attempt do not count as support.
-
Running with a dog is not considered support.
